Program An Excerpt He does not hide in the shadows For the past 30 odd years the public
has been told the man who wanders the country killing women is a serial
killer. He is elusive, brilliant, cunning, and stealthy. The serial
killer has replaced Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and the werewolf as killers
of women. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde were once the boogeyman to be feared.
So when women thought of a murderer the picture of Dr. Jekyll and Mr.
Hyde would come to mind. Implanted in their mind was that the werewolf
only came out at night when the moon is full. If he can be locked a
in room during the time of the transformation the lives of women would
be saved. We associate murder with the night. We believe murder takes
place at night and is committed by people who look like murderers. The
serial killer is presented as super human because he kills so many women
and moves throughout society undetected. Therefore he is by far the
most extraordinary murderer of women. We say the only reason why this
man is so successful is because no one expected him and no one is looking
for him. In the past we did not have an accurate description of him.
Once a serial killer is described and brought into view he is no longer
super human or brilliant. He is just cunning and sly. He would have
a much harder time murdering women if he were expected. |
