The National Institute of the Study of Violence "Silent Supporter Program"
Is designed to stop violence against women.

There are three phases to the program.

1. Raising public awareness to the plight of women living in violent situations.
2. Providing information to women experiencing violence in the home.
3. Giving family and friends tools to help a woman experiencing violence in her life.

Brochures regarding domestic violence will be periodically placed in the offices of physicians, chiropractors and dentists, hospital emergency rooms and day care centers. Posters will be placed in the female bathrooms of large office buildings and hospitals areas where there is a large traffic of women. The brochures will contain information helpful to women living in a violent situation. The dissemination of information to women indirectly will allow these women to gain useful information without putting themselves at risk until they are in a position to act. The woman can establish a dialogue with various organizations without anyone knowing what she is doing nor put herself at risk. She can learn what to do in an emergency. She can learn what she needs to do to prepare to leave. And she will know transportation is available for her and her children if she has to flee her home.

Our program lets the abused or troubled woman know there is community support close at hand. She can gather information without having to reveal her secret or discuss imitate details with a stranger. We are arming her with information for future use. Our program lets the woman know she is not alone and she can work toward a solution to her problems.

Transportation via cab will be offered to any woman seeking refuge from a violent situation. Recently a child was murdered because his mother did not have money to pay for transportation after she escaped a violent situation. We must prevent this from ever happening again. The National Institute of the Study of Violence is committed to preventing violence against women and children.

Family and Friends will also read this information helping them to understand the problem and to gain information as how they can help.

We are asking everyone to memorize the National Domestic Violence Hot Line 800-799-SAFE. We are also asking everyone to memorize his or her Statewide Hot Line. Do you know your Statewide Hot Line?

Violent occurrences are going to continue until more attention is given to the problems of women. We must spotlight this problem in our society. Domestic Violence can no longer be ignored.

Domestic and Sexual Violence Against Women and Children Can Be Stopped - we must all work together for a better society - forever conscious of the women and children living all around us.
